Assignment No1

Camera:                               Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Shutter Speed:                     1/100 sec
F-Stop:                                 f2.8
ISO:                                     250
Lens EF 24-70mm at:          68mm
Flash fired:                           ETTL mode
Exposure mode:                   Aperture Priority

Taken within Aladdins Shopping Centre in Bellshill, an image of the cobbler at work.
This image was shot within the centre where there was no natural ambient lighting, and what light there was, was provided by overhead fluorescent lights.
There was adequate room to work with but I felt that the 24-70mm lens was able to frame the image I wanted.
I felt that there was an industrial feeling to this image and that converting it to black and white accentuated this, particularly with the subject’s stubble and grimy appearance.
I also felt the colours and exposures were accurate in showing the scene.
I felt that I was successful in:
·         Framing the subject (cropped)
·         Exposure correct to show an accurate depiction of the scene
·         Lighting correct to show an accurate depiction of the scene
·         Converted to black and white accentuates the industrial feeling
I felt that I was unsuccessful in:
  • Perhaps the background would have been of interest here and a deeper depth of field (narrower aperture) would have brought it into focus.

Camera:                                 Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Shutter Speed:                     1/40 sec
F-Stop:                                  f/5.6
ISO:                                       100
Lens EF 24-70mm at:          70mm
Flash fired:                           Off
Exposure mode:                   Aperture Priority

Taken in Collemacchia, Italy, several shots were taken of this little girl one of which, this one, captured her in a shy moment.  The image was chosen for the look on the little girls face.
I also felt the colours and exposures were accurate in showing the scene.
I felt that I was successful in:
·         Framing the subject (cropped)
·         Exposure correct to show an accurate depiction of the scene
·         Lighting correct to show an accurate depiction of the scene
I felt that I was unsuccessful in:
  • Not as sharp as I would have liked
  • Broom handle and dustpan unwanted attractions in the frame

F-Stop:                                  f2.8
ISO:                                       200
Lens EF 24-70mm at:        70mm
Flash fired:                            off
Exposure mode:                   Aperture Priority
This image was taken in a cafe in Vasto, Italy where there was good ambient light coming from the left of the image.
Several images were taken of Michele at the table but I thought that the use of his pointed figure lent a Mediterranean feel to his pose.
I felt that I was successful in:
·         Capturing a feeling of his emotion
·         Framing the image
·         Depth of field
·         exposure
I felt that I was unsuccessful in:
  • over exposing the right hand side of the subjects forehead

Camera:                                 Canon 5D Mk II
Shutter Speed:                     1/50 sec
Aperture:                                f2.8
ISO:                                        250
Lens EF 70-200mm at:        70mm
Flash:                                     auto
Exposure mode                    Aperture Priority

Taken within Aladdins Shopping Centre in Bellshill, I thought this subject was a bit unusual.
This image was shot within the centre where there was no natural ambient lighting, and what light there was, was provided by overhead fluorescent lights.

I was able to put some distance between the subject and the camera and decided to use a 70-200mm telephoto lens.  Due to the lack of light I felt it better to use a wide aperture lens.
I also felt the colours and exposures were accurate in showing the scene.

I felt that I was successful in:

       ·         Framing the subject (cropped)
       ·         Exposure correct to show an accurate depiction of the scene
       ·         Lighting correct to show an accurate depiction of the scene
       ·         Using a wide aperture of f2.8 allowed blurring of the background taking away any unwanted attractions

I felt that I was unsuccessful in:

·         Should have waited until or arranged for the subject to open his eyes.

Camera:                                                Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Shutter Speed:                                     1/30 sec
F-Stop:                                                   f/2.8
ISO:                                                        250
Lens EF 24-70mm at:                         25mm
Flash:                                                    fired (on manual)
Exposure mode:                                 Aperture Priority

This image was shot within the confined space of a jewellers back shop where there was no natural ambient lighting, and what light there was, was provided by overhead fluorescent lights.  As it was a working environment I could not use any other lighting other than a flash.
Due to the lack of light, I felt I was would have been better to use a wide aperture lens and as it was a confined space a relatively wide angled lens, making the EF 24-70 / f2.8 was my preferred option.
I took several shots and felt this angle was the most successful.  I felt it portrayed the subject working.
I also felt the colours and exposures were accurate in showing the scene.
I felt that I was successful in:
·        Framing the subject
·        Exposure correct to show an accurate depiction of the scene
·        Lighting correct to show an accurate depiction of the scene
I felt that I was unsuccessful in:
·        As a result of shooting with an aperture of f2.8 the Depth of field was too shallow and the prominent places in the image were out of focus.
·        Focal point is on the hair and not on the eye area.
